This
collaborative project is a synthesis of several studies: the sociological
research of John Mihelich about the community of Butte, Montana from the
1930s to the 1960s, the musical composition, The Glittering Hill, by Daniel
Bukvich, and the visualization process of an information design group from
the University of Idaho. The ultimate goal of this project is to create
a multi-media CD-rom that will feature visual, textual and audio information
about Butte, Montana. Our initial goal was to design the graphical/navigational
framework for the interactive CD. After completing this, we produced one
of the twelve historical chapters and one of the twelve musical movements.
I was personally responsible for designing the graphical look of the navigation
and animated it in Flash. I also created the hand-drawn illustrations.
Completion of this pilot happened as a part of the Information Design Group at the University of Idaho. For more information about the Information Design Group, please contact Jill Dacey at the University of Idaho Art Department. The class was funded under an Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE) Technology Grant, Jill Dacey, PI. Team members included Ludmilla Saskova (team lead), Jeff Gray, Ashley Horrall, and Susan Weaver.
